Heliconia rostrata is an excellent specimen for the landscape or container. The dramatic inflorescence takes its time to open and provides a bright display for well over a month. Use palm tree fertilizer, well drained soil, and a short break from searing sun to keep foliage bright. Place in a protected area of the garden so as to avoid frost. This plant may die back with a frost but will reappear in the spring with more plants. The blooms appear from last years growth so be sure not to cut old growth in the spring no matter how bad it looks. Rostrata grows slowly and can be easily contained within a neat clump. As with all heliconias, do not allow rhizomes to sit in water. This will produce rhizome rot. Available for shipping
