This Hedychium is known as Butterfly Ginger .  The flower looks like a butterfly and is very scented.  The stalks are thick and sturdy and love to have early morning sun with some protection throughout the day.  As with all gingers use well drained soil and a regular fertilizer.  Our plants have gone dormant every winter but come back with more rhizomes each year.  Plants winter better if in the ground or in a protected area.  They are excellent in pots and come in many different hybrids that produce flower colors such as peach, yellow and orange.
